Tecumseh Prison inmate sentenced for assaulting caseworker

Tyler Simmonds had been serving time for Douglas and Lancaster County convictions

TECUMSEH - A judge has sentenced a Tecumseh State Prison inmate for an attack on a criminal caseworker.

Deputy Johnson County Attorney Benjamin Beethe says Tyler Simmonds was sentenced Monday, by District Judge Rick Schreiner, in Johnson County District Court.  Simmonds received a sentence of 10 to 15 years incarceration on a count of second-degree assault.

On October 29, of 2020 Simmonds assaulted Tecumseh State Prison caseworker Becky Bohling, after ignoring orders.

The sentence is to be served consecutive to sentences Simmonds is currently serving. 

Simmonds had been serving a four-year prison term on convictions from Douglas and Lancaster Counties.  He was serving time for being an accessory to attempted first-degree assault, two felony counts of theft by shoplifting and third-degree assault.

Prior to his new sentence issued Monday, Simmonds' projected release date was April 16th, of 2023.
