Gage County supervisors set elected official pay, for next four-year-term

BEATRICE – Persons elected to Gage County offices for the term beginning in 2023, now know what they would be paid each year.
The Gage County Supervisors Wednesday approved elected officials pay, which grants a six-percent increase in the second year of the term, and four-percent hikes in years three and four. Gage County Board Chairman Erich Tiemann says the county will remain below the recommended level suggested by the Nebraska Association of County Officials.
"We talked with some of the elected officials. They aren't necessarily at the levels that they wanted to be at, but we are within range. We have gone towards the bottom of that again. There is discussion about trying to get at the midpoint. We're finishing this four year term at just below where they recommended with be, starting the next term."
Most elected office holders will be paid $74,077 dollars in 2023, with the exception of the sheriff and county attorney. The sheriff’s position will start the term at $91,970, while the county attorney would make $111,110. Deputy elected officials pay is set at 75% of the elected official salary, except for 80% for the chief deputy sheriff and chief deputy county attorney.
Gage County board members will make $28,728 in 2023….with that salary rising to $32,937 by the end of the four-year term. The chairman of the board will be paid an additional $4,800 annually.
The County Surveyor position will hold at $26,600 throughout the four-year term.
On Wednesday, the board held their 2022 reorganization meeting, unanimously reelecting Erich Tiemann as Board Chairman. Emily Haxby was chosen as Vice-Chairman, in a 4-1 vote over Dennis Byars. Two members were absent from the meeting, though Supervisor Don Schuller participated online.
