BEATRICE – One person was taken for treatment from a two-vehicle crash in east Beatrice, just before three p.m., Monday. The collision happened at a traffic light intersection, at 19th and Court.

The driver taken to the hospital had to be freed from the wreckage of his vehicle.

"The gentleman in the car complained of rib pain...non life-threatening injuries. Just the way the collision happened, we had to use our extrication tools to get him out".

Beatrice Fire Chief Brian Daake says the injured man...identified as 65-year-old Louis Oltmans, of Beatrice was taken to Beatrice Community Hospital. The female driver of the S-U-V....34-year-old Kari Licht, of rural Beatrice was not seriously hurt but was checked over at the local hospital.

Firefighters used a drying agent to clean up some fuel or oil spilled at the scene. The intersection was blocked off and motorists were detoured around the scene for about a half-hour.  The car involved ended up in the intersection following the impact, while the S-U-V was in the eastbound lane, east of the intersection.
There were no passengers in either vehicle.

While the accident was being investigated police were called to minor accident several blocks west at 6th and High Streets, near the Beatrice Middle School.
