BEATRICE – It can be a potentially hazardous situation….accidents at unmarked rural intersections where crops can sometimes obstruct view.

A crash happened northeast of Beatrice Saturday morning when a sport utility vehicle traveling South 10th Road and a pickup traveling East Hickory Road collided, next to corn fields that had not yet been harvested.

Beatrice Fire and Rescue and Beatrice Rural Fire were dispatched to the scene along with Gage County Sheriff’s Deputies, at around 9:30 a.m.

The gravel intersection where the collision happened is just southeast of a paved surface of Hickory Road that curves north and west.

Both drivers were out of their vehicles when emergency personnel arrived on scene.   Authorities say an eastbound pickup driven by Jerry Dishman of Beatrice and a northbound sport utility vehicle driven by Lori Dunn, of Beatrice.....collided at the intersection.

Deputies say standing corn at the southwest corner of the intersection may have obstructed the view of the drivers.   Both Dishman and Dorn were checked over by medical personnel at the scene, and released.  Both were wearing seatbelts during the collision.
