North Platte Police arrest Texas man in multi-state fraud case

A man from Texas is facing multiple felony charges after North Platte Police say he attempted to fraudulently withdraw money from a local bank.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A man from Texas is facing multiple felony charges after North Platte Police say he attempted to fraudulently withdraw money from a local bank.

According to the North Platte Police Department, officers were called to Wells Fargo in downtown North Platte on Friday after reports of a suspicious transaction.

Upon arrival, Jiancheng Chen of Dallas, Texas was identified as the suspect. According to investigators, the 29-year-old had been traveling across several states, visiting banks and accessing victims’ accounts using stolen personal information obtained fraudulently through scams.

Officers seized approximately $36,000 in cash believed to be connected to the fraudulent activity, along with materials suggesting ties to a criminal syndicate based in another state.

Chen was arrested and taken to the Lincoln County Detention Center and faces multiple felony charges, including theft by receiving stolen property over $5,000, possession of a financial transaction device, racketeering, criminal impersonation, identity theft, and attempted theft by deception.

The case remains under active investigation, and the North Platte Department is working with additional agencies to determine the full scope of Chen’s activities.
