BEATRICE - The old asphalt surface on part of Lincoln Street in the east part of Beatrice has been torn out. The section of the street between 25th and 27th Streets will be replaced with concrete in what is a more than half-million dollar project.

M.E. Collins Contracting submitted the winning bid among ten contractors, totaling some $554-thousand dollars. Lincoln Street was closed and the construction work started May 27th. The project includes installation of new drainage basins.

City officials say the work will be completed this summer. It represents part of a major street upgrade of Lincoln and 33rd Street, not far from the new Beatrice Public Schools prekindergarten through fifth grade facility.

Contract payments were approved in a short agenda for the Beatrice City Council Monday night.
A pay request by Pruss Excavation totaling over $190,000 was approved for the ongoing work to build a new landfill, southwest of Beatrice.


Elected officials also approved an increase in contract of around $14,700 to M.E. Collins Construction, for the improvements on Lincoln Street between 25th and 27th Streets.


A pay request for sewer lift station improvements in the north part of the city was approved. The payment of over $146,000 goes to Philip Carkoski Construction and Trenching.


The council also approved an agreement between the City and Sewer A.I. for providing software for sewer and storm water inspection data management.


The city council approved two reappointments to boards by Mayor Bob Morgan. Tracy Hartley was reappointed to the Community Redevelopment Authority, which considers tax increment financing requests. Brandy Coffin was reappointed to the Beatrice Public Library Advisory Board.
