Crete wins pitchers duel, tops Beatrice 2-1

BEATRICE, Neb. - Thanks to some strong pitching from the Crete Cardinals, Beatrice's journey to being above .500 for the first time since opening day will have to continue.
Crete topped Beatrice 2-1 on Tuesday night, winning a battle with just eight total hits. Beatrice took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Ty Weichel that charged Crete starter Nick Wendt with his first earned run of the year.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals plated runs in the second and third to take a 2-1 lead, as Beatrice starter Austin Baldwin wet three innings allowing two runs on two hits. Owen Reis pitched the remaining four innings for the Big Orange and shut out the Cardinals.
Nick Wendt was pulled after 6.1 innings, where he allowed one run on four hits, recording three strikeouts. Beatrice would leave runners on the corners to end the game and Crete walks away with their ninth win of the year.
Beatrice falls to 5-6 with the loss, while the Cardinals improve to 9-6.
