BEATRICE, Neb. - For a second straight year, Beatrice Mayor Bob Morgan hosted his Mayor's Prayer Breakfast.

Dozens attended the early morning gathering at the Vintage Venue in downtown Beatrice. This year's keynote speaker was University of Nebraska Deputy AD and Chief Operating Officer Haven Fields. Fields joined Nebraska's staff in April of 2024, and serves as the day-to-day football administrator, assisting Head Coach Matt Rhule and his football staff.

"Since I got here I've tried to find ways to be engrained, was asked to come down and share a few words about the [athletic] department and my faith," Fields said. "And being a man of faith myself, I felt that was really important for me to do today."

Fields played college football at Auburn, where he won the Zeke Smith Award for Auburn defensive player of the year. A main talking point concerned with the university was NIL... Something Fields says has changed a lot in recent years, much less since he was an athlete. He says the department is working through the new theme of college sports.

"I think it's just important we as a department, led by Athletic Director Troy Dannen are continuing to think of ways to be innovative and support them [student athletes] and give them the best experience possible," Fields said. "NIL is one of those things, so we'll continue to partner with 1890 and think of the best ways to support our programs."
