YORK, Neb. - A Sunday afternoon collision just east of York ripped open the side of a semi-trailer, spilling some of its contents onto Interstate 80 and shutting down traffic for a couple of hours.

The crash occurred near mile marker 353 east of York around 2:45 p.m. on Sunday when one trailer in the left lane swiped the side of another in the right lane, ripping open the truck's exterior and causing some of its payload to spill onto the road's surface.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Nebraska 511 stated in a post on X that the stretch of I-80 eastbound from York, including the ramp, would be shut down due to the crash.

About an hour later, around 3:45 p.m., the York County Sheriff's Office shared the above photo in a post on Facebook, along with the message: "We are working diligently to get the interstate back open but deputies are still working a two vehicle accident so USE CAUTION, be PATIENT, and get off your cell phones."

The Nebraska Department of Transportation said that the crash was fully cleared by around 5:30 p.m. Sunday. No further details about the crash, including its cause or an assessment of damages, were immediately available.
