One taken to hospital after three-vehicle collision

BEATRICE – A collision involving three vehicles in north Beatrice sent one person by ambulance to Beatrice Community Hospital, Tuesday afternoon.
The collision happened at U.S. Highway 77 and Industrial Row. A Nissan Altima driven by 38-year-old Jose Santos Ayala, Jr. of Beatrice was southbound, approaching the intersection. A traffic signal was changing from yellow to red as his vehicle entered the intersection.
A north-facing Chevrolet Express vehicle driven by 27-year-old Gregory Morhain, of Papillion began a left turn onto Industrial Row and was struck on the passenger side by the Nissan, causing it to slide sideways into a third vehicle stopped on a red light. The collision also knocked over a sign located in the median.
Santos Ayala was taken to Beatrice Community Hospital for treatment of injuries, while two occupants in the stopped vehicle from Summerfield, Kansas drove themselves to the hospital.
The collision happened at around 2:25 p.m.
