Lincoln firm picked to build entrance and building at new Beatrice landfill site
BEATRICE – The board that governs the Beatrice Landfill operation has approved a bid for an entrance and building for the new facility that will be constructed southwest of Beatrice.
The Beatrice Area Solid Waste Agency Board approved the bid of Genesis Contracting Group of Lincoln, at a cost of four-million, 52-thousand dollars.
"This is for the site entrance...this would be the building, the scale house...customer drop-off....those kind of things."
Beatrice City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer says a total of three companies offered bids for the building and entrance.
"Bids ranged from four-million, fifty two thousand...to four-million seven hundred and ninety nine dollars....so three bids within about seven hundred thousand dollars of each other."
While the earthwork bid came in higher for the new landfill project, Tempelmeyer says the building and entrance bid was lower than the engineering estimate.
"The engineer's estimate was six million, one hundred and forty one thousand dollars...so it came in significantly less than the engineer's estimate."
The BASWA Board also approved an agreement with Burns McDonnell for sampling, monitoring and testing services….at a cost of up to $84,800 for services provided this year, in the project area.
The company has done considerable engineering work for Beatrice in the area of solid waste management.
Earlier, BASWA approved a negotiated bid of $6.2 million for the earthwork at the new landfill site, south of Lilac Road.
