City of Fairbury under snow emergency effective Saturday afternoon
The city of Fairbury issued an alert just before 4 p.m. Friday announcing that the city will be under the guidance of a snow emergency, effective Saturday afternoon through Monday morning. The following is a full reprint of the city's announcement; stay tuned to Ol' Red and News Channel Nebraska for coverage of this season's first snowfall all weekend long.
SNOW EMERGENCY EFFECTIVE
Due to the predicted weather forecast, Mayor Kelly Davis has issued a snow emergency for the City of Fairbury, effective Saturday, January 5, 2025 at 3:00pm. until Monday, January 7, 2025 at 12:00pm.
While the snow emergency is in effect, all parking on emergency snow routes is prohibited and parking is prohibited in the downtown district after two inches of snowfall until snow is windrowed to the center of the street. Once the snow has been windrowed, vehicles are allowed to parallel park in this district unless otherwise noted. Vehicles parked in prohibited areas are subject to towing at the owner's expense.

"This may seem premature, but with the predicted weather and after talking with the Jefferson County Emergency Services Director, we felt this was the right thing to do so everyone has time to find a place to park their vehicles so they don't get plowed in or towed," Fairbury mayor Kelly Davis wrote in a post on Facebook Friday. "If you are on an emergency snow route and have an elderly neighbor, or a neighbor that doesn't have social media, be a good neighbor and share this information with them. If you are unsure whether you are on an emergency snow route, look up and down your street for emergency snow route signs, or check out the emergency snow route map on the city's webpage."
