SIDNEY -- Cassie Barber wants to add more than just a good haircut and what may traditionally go with it.

She wants to include services requiring upgrading her license from cosmetology to medical, and offering a drink as well.

"I've owned my salon for 20 years, March of '04 I opened it. We recently bought the bank, and we're moving there on Thursday, and we want to expand and we want to offer Japanese scalp facials, and wedding parties, with that comes the joy of everybody asking for liquor and alcohol. So, we would like to get our liquor license to provide for bridal showers, weddings, people want to come in and have a drink when they get a haircut ... that's what our plans are," Barber said in the December 17 Sidney City Council meeting.

One of the new offerings is a Japanese scalp facial. The new location will include The Scalp Facial Lounge at Reflexions Spa.

"We're all flying to Utah. We have our cosmetology license and now it is going to go from a cosmetology license to a medical license. We're getting our tricology (study of hair and scalp) license in Utah, at Lehi, Utah in February. So with scalp facials, it is the study of the scalp that like we can check if you're having alopecia, dehydration, a lot of stuff in the body starts in the scalp," she said.

She said they will be able to scope the scalp, show the affects of hard water build-up, or lacking proteins.

"So, it's a really big call. That's taking us from cosmetology where we're all going to medical license now. So we need a bigger building, so we're moving over and going to put all these beds in," Barber said.

Reflexion Salon plans to open at their new location at 1108 10th Ave. in Sidney on January 6.
