BEATRICE – A Dodge, Nebraska construction company has been selected to build a new landfill southwest of Beatrice.

The Beatrice Area Solid Waste Agency Board approved the bid of Pruss Excavating…the lone bid received for the specialized job.   The initial bid totaled $6.4 million…negotiated down to $6.2 million.

City Administrator Tobias Tempelmeyer says the budgeted engineering estimate was about $5.6 million.  The earthwork to build the cells is expected to be completed by October of next year.   Tempelmeyer said the company previously built part of the current landfill where space is running out.

The new facility will be along Locust Road…south of the current landfill.

The work could potentially begin this month.   Still to be bid is construction of a building and scale for the new facility.

The BASWA Board also approved an agreement with Burns McDonnell to provide the construction oversight for the new cells and entrance, at a cost of $610,000.
