GACC rallies in final minute to stun Crofton on the road
CROFTON - Even though the Bluejays trailed for most of the game, GACC made enough plays late to take down Crofton 33-32 on Saturday night.
The Bluejays (2-0) and Warriors (1-2) played each other fast and physical, not giving either side many opportunities inside.
The three point line was the promised land in the game, with a total of 11 three's being knocked down in the contest.
GACC led 8-0 to start the game, but Crofton came right back to end the 1st quarter 8-7.
The Warriors took the lead early in the second and wouldn't give it up until the fourth quarter. Trevor Allen was unconscious from the perimeter, drilling four first-half three's. He led all scorers with 18 points at the end of the game.
GACC's Konnor Kralik was dealing with tendonitis during the game, but still was a huge spark for the Bluejays comeback, scoring 13 points and making a few huge passes late.
Down by three points in the fourth quarter, Kralik found Chase Smith under the basket for an "and one" bucket. Smith hit the free throw to tie the game.
Crofton's Braxston Foxhoven scored on the ensuing drive to give the Warriors the 32-30 lead. Enter Chase Smith, who drilled the go-ahead three pointer with under 40 seconds.
Crofton had a chance to win the game late, but were stunted by the Bluejays tough defense.
GACC held on for the one-point win and moves to 3-0 on the season, while Crofton falls to 1-2.
