Huskers ready for top five showdown, two-game road trip to end regular season
LINCOLN, Neb. - The second-ranked Husker volleyball team is set to wrap up regular season play this weekend, with a chance to secure yet another Big Ten Championship.
Nebraska faces off with #4 Penn State on Black Friday and Maryland on Sunday. After sweeping #6 Wisconsin, it's back to back matches against top 10 teams for the Big Red. Head Coach John Cook says not much changes on the preparation side.
"We treat this week just like it's week one," Cook said. "We have to go on the road and find a way to win matches. The schedule is a little different because of Thanksgiving, but we just try to get them as rested as we can, keep them sharp, and go play."
Nebraska looks to finish the year a perfect 20-0 in Big Ten play and round out the season on a 27 game win streak.
Earlier this week, three Huskers were selected in the Pro Volleyball Federation draft, including Merritt Beason who was selected number one overall by the Atlanta Vibe - in the midst of wrapping up her senior year.
"It is kind of weird, because I am drafted, but I'm still here and still have a few weeks left. It depends on how you look at it, I think it's nice to not have to worry about it and be able to focus on the end of the season, but it is a bit weird," Beason said. "I think the other girls drafted would agree, we're just trying to focus on the end of this season."
Also selected were seniors Leyla Blackwell, who was selected by the San Diego Mojo and Omaha native Lindsey Krause, who will represent her hometown on the Omaha Supernovas.
#2 Nebraska and #4 Penn State is set for 4:00 p.m. c.t. on BTN.
