Class B softball title team honored by Beatrice School Board
BEATRICE – The title-holding team in Nebraska Class-B Softball was honored Monday night.
Members of the Beatrice Lady Orange Softball team attended the Beatrice School Board meeting, along with BHS Athletic Director Gus Brown….and Head Coach Gary Lytle.
"I'd just like to say thank you to the school board and to the community. These ladies had a lot of support as we went through the state tournament. It was a great time...a lot of fun...and you saw a lot of perservance, a lot of good qualities from these kids. They're an amazing group. In seven years, this is one of the best groups I've had the opportunity to coach....just in their willingness to go out and work....never question what it is....we knew what our goals are...here's the tasks to get the goals done. They just put their heads down and worked."
The Lady Orange won a Class-B Championship game thriller, with a walk-off game-winning base hit to defeat Hastings, 1-0. The team won the state title with an overall season record of 30-5. Beatrice last won a state softball crown in 2003.
During the fall sports season, another success was the Beatrice Boys Cross Country Team....which finished fourth as a team. Josiah Quinones finished 8th individually and Lucas Frazier finished 11th.
