Wildfire pushes across miles of Nemaha County
JOHNSON- Firefighters from multiple agencies are battling a grass fire that is being fueled by months of drought, low humidity and wind gusts up to 46 mph.
The fire started near Highway 136 east of Johnson and firefighters were dispatched to 632 Avenue and 730 Road prior to 1:50 p.m.
The fire was driven three miles to the border of the Clifton Cemetery about three miles from Brock.
Smoke impacted downwind communities. Residents of Brock who were evacuated were given opportunity for shelter at the Auburn Wellness Center.
Firefighters from Johnson, Auburn, Talmage, Syracuse and Tecumseh were aided by multiple private tractors and discs and commercial tankers from Frontier Cooperative.
The path of the fire was narrow as it moved north in the area of Coryell Park, but it was over three miles long within two hours.
