EXETER, Neb. - A 14-year-old boy was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Friday morning in Fillmore County.

According to our news partners at KSNB, the crash occurred just after 7:40 a.m. on Highway 6 about three miles east of Exeter. One of the drivers was killed, the other driver was hospitalized, and Highway 6 was closed for about two-and-a-half hours.

A preliminary investigation determined that a black Mazda driven by a 14-year-old boy heading west from Friend crossed the center line and crashed into an eastbound Ford Ranger pickup driven by an 83-year-old woman from Fairmont.

The Fillmore County sheriff’s office said the Mazda driver was killed on impact. The woman was taken by ambulance to Warren Memorial Hospital in Friend where she was listed in stable condition.

On Monday, the Lincoln Journal Star identified the 14-year-old as Max A. Real Cisneros of Dorchester. Max was a freshman at Exeter-Milligan High School and is survived by his parents and three siblings. Public records show that visitation services for Cisneros and his family will be held on Tuesday evening in Exeter, and a Mass of Christian Burial in Spanish will be held on Wednesday morning in Crete.

The other driver was identified as 83-year-old Karen Chapman of Fairmont. Investigators initially concluded Cisneros may have been using an electronic device at the time of the crash. Seat belts were used by both drivers and drugs or alcohol were not suspected in the initial analysis of the incident.
