WAYNE - It isn't easy to sweep opponents in volleyball, especially when each set is neck and neck. Guardian Angels Central Catholic managed to travel up to Wayne and do exactly that on Tuesday night, knocking off the Blue Devils in straight sets 25-18, 28-26, 26-24.

The Blue Jays lost to the Blue Devils earlier in the season 2-1 in a triangular and started this matchup with an intense offensive output.

Charlie Dinslage and Juli Ridder helped propel GACC past an 11-11 tie in the first set to win 25-18.

In the second set, the Blue Jays and Blue Devils were fighting again midway through the set until GACC jumped ahead to a 23-16 lead.

Wayne battled back, winning the next 8 points to vault in front 24-23 after Haley Kramer got the hot hand.

Both teams traded points past 25, until the Blue Jays secured the set 2 win, 28-26.

In the third set, Wayne and GACC left it all out on the court. Neither team lead by more than 3 points through the entirety of the set.

GACC took a 25-24 lead before Juli Ridder finished the sweep with an ace that landed in the corner of the hardwood

Juli Ridder was the enforcer for GACC, picking up 17 kills with three blocks and two aces, including the game winner. Charlie Dinslage finished the night with 8 kills, while freshman Bailey Gerths added 7 kills and three blocks.

Wayne saw a nice outing from junior Haley Kramer, picking up 12 kills. Elle Powicki was another solid option for the Blue Jays, tallying 9 kills.

The win for GACC moves them to 5-5 on the young season, while Wayne falls to 7-5.
