Twenty-third ranked Huskers round out non-conference with Northern Iowa
LINCOLN, NEB. - For the first time since 2019, Nebraska is ranked, sitting 23rd in this weeks AP Top 25.
The Huskers round out non-conference play on Saturday night when they welcome Northern Iowa. While Nebraska is ranked and off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2016, Head Coach Matt Rhule says that's expectation for his program, with the goal of getting better.
"You come here to have high expectations. You come here to play in big games. You come here to play in front of that crowd," Rhule said. "You come here, you expect to be ranked, but 23rd or 24th, that's not where you want to end up. Go 1-0 each week and see what happens."
Nebraska topped Colorado 28-10 on Saturday night, as the Blackshirts shined, recording six sacks and two turnovers, including a pick six. Offensively, Nebraska ball carriers averaged 4.3 yards per carry.
Now, Nebraska welcomes the 23rd ranked team from the FCS in Northern Iowa. The contest is yet another Memorial Stadium night game, something Rhule isn't personally a fan of, but he says it's good for the team and fans.
"If it were up to me we'd play every game at 9:00 a.m... Kegs, eggs and football," Rhule said. "For the team, night games are amazing. The crowd is so electric. Seeing stuff on Twitter, I see some of the stuff that happens behind the scenes. It was a great crowd."
The Panthers enter 2-0 with a 35-7 win over Valparaiso and a 17-10 win over St. Thomas (MN). Kick off is set for 6:30 p.m. CT at Memorial Stadium
