BEATRICE – Two people have been arrested at separate locations as suspects in the death of a child, in Beatrice.

Police said warrants were served Saturday morning at a west Beatrice home in the ten-hundred block of Herbert Street.

Police were investigating the death of an infant male who died at Beatrice Community Hospital.   Officers were called to the home on August 15th for an unresponsive child.  Life-saving measures were taken but were unsuccessful.

An investigation followed as police were looking for the cause of the child becoming unresponsive.

At the Herbert Street address between eight a.m. and nine a.m. Saturday, police arrested Austin James Meyn on suspicion of intentional child abuse resulting in death.

Later, at a truck stop north of Beatrice, Police and Gage County Sheriff’s officers arrested Ashlen Zitel, where she worked.  She was arrested on suspicion of negligent child abuse resulting in death.

Authorities said Zitel was the mother of the infant who died.   Police have not released information on the cause or manner of death in the case.
