Gladys Helene Ebke was born Dec. 5, 1925 at rural DeWitt, Nebraska, to Fred and Helene (Pieper) Tiemann.  She was baptized on Dec. 25, 1925 by Rev. Al Fleischmann.  She was confirmed on May 14, 1940, by Rev. Anton Eggerling.  Her confirmation verse was Matthew 28:20b— “Lo, I am with you always even to the end of the world.”
 
She graduated from DeWitt High School in 1943 after which she attended the National Business Institute in Lincoln, Nebraska.  Then she was employed in the accounting department of the Cooper Foundation Theatres for six and one half years.  Later she worked at the Swingster Manufacturing Company in Fairbury for 11 years.
 
On January 21, 1951, she was married to Erwin Ebke of Daykin.  They farmed for 36 years before moving to Daykin.  They were blessed with three sons: Brian, David and Russel.
 
Gladys was active in her church and the church women’s organization and served in various capacities in both.  For over 25 years she shared services as one of the organists.  She was also active in several organizations.  She enjoyed her grandchildren, classical music, hymns and quilt making.  Bible verses about trust were especially dear to her.
 
She died on August 23, 2024 at the age of 98 years, 8 months and 18 days.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Earl and husband Erwin.  Survivors include her sons Brian and wife Christine, Waverly, NE; David and wife Patricia, Columbus, NE; and Russell and wife Laura, Crete, NE, grand-children Allison and Tom Gemelke and Ryan Ebke of Lincoln, Robert Ebke of Sioux City, Iowa, Jackson Ebke of Waverly, Nebraska, Joshua Ebke, Columbus, Nebraska, Jennifer and Chris Craven of Crete Nebraska, Natasha and Isaac Ebke of Crete Nebraska, great-grandchildren Anthony and Sophia Gemelke of Lincoln, Nebraska, Tamzin Craven of Crete, Nebraska, sister Doris and Wayne Ebke, Sister-in-Law Arlene Ebke and nieces, nephews and godchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Tabitha for the loving care that Gladys received while she was a resident there.

Viewing and meeting with family and friends will take place at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home on Monday August 26th at 6 to 8 PM at the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Chapel.  Funeral Services for Gladys, will be held on August 27th, 10:00 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church in Daykin Nebraska with Pastor Travis Penning officiating.  Burial will take place following the service at St. John Lutheran Cemetery half a mile east of Daykin Nebraska on Highway 4.
