Winds top 90-miles-per-hour during thunderstorm line across eastern Nebraska
BEATRICE – A wild bout with weather on Wednesday during late afternoon and early evening….as strong outflow winds from a thunderstorm line did damage in Nebraska and Iowa.
Severe thunderstorm wind speeds of 60 to over 90 miles per hour were recorded in eastern Nebraska as the system moved quickly through that part of the state into western Iowa.
A 92-mile-hour wind gust was reported at Denton, Nebraska….and an 88-mile-per-hour gust at Martell…both in Lancaster County.
In Nebraska, the high winds knocked down poles, caused power outages and damaged trees. There was a report of a brief tornado near the Missouri River, six miles east of Murray Nebraska. Another tornado report was received two miles southeast of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Damage was also reported in southwest Iowa, where a downed tree blocked Main Street in Neola, northeast of Omaha….and a tree came down on a house and power lines in Oakland, Iowa….to the east of Omaha.
Strong storms also rolled across northern and central Kansas, producing a wind gust of 95-miles-per-hour at Salina....in the middle of the state.
Just after four p.m., softball sized hail was reported to emergency management near Prairie View, Kansas….in the northwest part of the state, not far from the Nebraska-Kansas border.
