LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The man accused of shooting and killing two men outside of a Lincoln strip club is now facing the death penalty.

Amended charges for 32-year-old Christopher Johnson were submitted to the court on Monday. Prosecutors have upgraded his first-degree murder charges to class I felonies which carry the death penalty. Previously, Johnson had been charged with a class IA felony which carries a penalty of life imprisonment.

Prosecutors have also charged Johnson with an additional count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person for a total of five felony counts.

Johnson is charged in the killings of 39-year-old Carlos Silva and 40-year-old Terrell Jones after a shooting outside The Office Gentleman’s Club on May 25.

Officers were called to the strip club just before 2 a.m. and found the men suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. They would later die at the hospital.

Lincoln Police used surveillance video from the club to identify Johnson and an alleged accomplice, 32-year-old Darious Fletcher, according to court records.

Investigators would later track Johnson to Omaha where he was arrested after a foot pursuit on May 28. Fletcher was arrested the same day in Lincoln without incident.

An eyewitness who has asked to remain anonymous claims Johnson was involved in a fight and shooting at the Gravity night club on May 21, 2022. The shooting left three people injured.

Both Johnson and Fletcher are scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 21 for preliminary hearings.
