David Conrad “Moo” Mooberry, age 78, passed away on June 26, 2024, at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Society care facility after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.  Dave was the first born to Mary Jean (Conrad) and Harold “Razz” Mooberry in Crete, Nebraska, on June 12, 1946.  He always joked about sharing his birthday with Donald Trump.

Dave was raised in Crete, later graduating from Hastings Senior High School after a family move.  He was attending Hastings College when drafted to serve in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam war.  Fortunately, he was sent to West Germany for his tour of duty and enjoyed traveling around Europe.   After discharge, Dave lived in Nebraska, Colorado, and New Mexico before settling in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Dave took college classes most of his adult life, typically doing so while maintaining full time employment.  He attended the University of Nebraska, and later completed coursework at the College of St. Mary and Peru State College; accumulating a number of credits hours well beyond what was necessary for a degree.  While at UNL, Dave was a member of Theta Xi Fraternity.

Dave worked full-time for many years for the City of Lincoln inspecting street projects.  After leaving the City’s employ, he was employed at Television Station KOLN, Time Warner Cable, and freelanced in audio/visual production at First Plymouth Church and for national productions broadcasting in the Lincoln area.  He ended his career by retiring as a civilian assistant from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.

Dave was a voracious reader and collector, specializing in Fred Stone equine prints.  He had varied interests including: piloting/owning an airplane: riding his horse “Conrad:” babying his cars (particularly a vintage Jaguar XKE); and adopting a parade of cats.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by sister, Jane Mooberry, of Gardiner, Maine; brother, Steve Mooberry (Mitzi), of Mountain City, Tennessee; niece, Megan Mooberry-Roberts of Gardiner, Maine, and great niece, Brooke Burnham.   He will be missed by longtime friend Bill Dibert and the guys he played pitch with monthly for 45 years (Bob Rutan, Steve & Jim Rowoldt, Mark Hunzeker, Eric Hemmingsen, Dave Goering, Mark Kolterman, Dave Besse, the late Evan Wieseman and others), and his Theta Xi fraternity brothers.

David was grateful for the care he received at The Waterford at College View, Emerald Nursing & Rehab Brookside, The Beatrice Good Samaritan Society, CHI Hospice, and Cottonwood Hospice.

Inurnment will take place at a future date at the Omaha National Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to The Cat House, 3633 O St, Lincoln, NE 68510. We invite all who knew and loved David to share memories, photos, and stories on his memorial page at www.ghchapel.com.

These services are entrusted to the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice.
