YORK, Neb. -- The York Fire Department was called Tuesday to help an individual who was stuck on a Viaero cell phone tower.

The fire department was called and dispatched at 12:06 p.m. after arial and ALS assistance was requested due to a worker, who was updating the cell phone tower, had his hand trapped under some steel.

With assistance from Fairmont Fire and Rescue, Fillmore County Sheriff Department and the York County 911, the victim was safely brought down and transported to Lincoln with non life-threatening injuries.

“Everything went well. Everybody worked well together,”said Tony Bestwick, York Fire Chief. “We were talking to each other on the radio so everything went pretty smooth.”

Bestwick said they’ve had to rescue people stuck in a grate elevator but never a cell phone tower.
