Fairbury working on new trail project for city park
FAIRBURY, Neb. -- Fairbury is adding a new walking trail to its city park.
The trail is still in its preliminary phase and has not been designed yet.
The City Council voted Tuesday night to allow Speece Lewis Engineering to work on design and engineering for the road.
The goal of the trail is to allow for more connectivity around the city, connecting the trail to other trails like the trail leading to the levy.
Fairbury Mayor Spencer Brown said it is an important project for connectivity and safety.
“The park right now doesn’t really have any sidewalks there,” Brown said. “If you notice, people that are biking around there, roller skating, walking, or running, they are generally out on the street. It is going to make it a lot safer for people to access the park and walk around the park and use it for exercise.”
Grants through the Travel and Tourism Outdoor and Recreational Trail Program under ARPA are helping fund the project.
