FAIRBURY, Neb. -- High wind speeds with trash is not a good combination and Fairbury’s Crystal Springs Campground has been affected by it.

But cleanup organizer Christie Kratz wants to change that with a cleanup day at the campground.

“On April 27, at 10 o’clock, we’re going to be having a cleanup at Crystal Springs Park, here in Fairbury,” Kratz said. “It’s to clean up a lot of the trash and litter that’s been hanging around in the trees.”

Beer bottles, plastic bags, and other items have built up along the tree line and in the grass.

Kratz yearns for the community to continue its appreciation for the parks.

“It’s also good to be a part of the community and to appreciate the parks that we have here in Fairbury,” Kratz said. “So, I think it’s good to be with your friends and to help do some good.”

Kratz said families and children are invited, along with students, who can receive community service hours.

With peak season at the campground right around the corner, Kratz said now is a better time than ever to clean.

“The RV season is starting soon so we will be having a lot of visitors coming in and people coming in for fishing,” Kratz said. “So it’s good to have a nice clean park.”

The campground’s new play set is another reason why Kratz believes the cleanup is important for the park.

“Because a lot of community members use the park,” Kratz said. "So, we don’t always walk around picking up trash as we’re doing it so we might as well take an hour to clean up the park all at one time."
