MARYSVILLE, Kan. -- Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville is offering low-cost blood work to the community Saturday.

The hospital is offering $30 blood profiles and $15 prostate cancer screening for men, which would cost around $200 to $300 originally.

Blood profile screenings will be from 6 to 10 a.m. in the hospital lobby and patients should enter through the south doors of the hospital.

The hospital has been doing the Spring Health Fair for over 15 years.

“We’re a nonprofit hospital and this is one of the ways that we’re able to help give back to the community,” Director of Public Relations and Marketing Ashley Kracht said. “Lab work can be so expensive, with or without insurance.”

The blood profile screening includes a lipid profile, TSH blood test, complete blood count, along with other tests. Kracht said the tests should take around 15 to 30 minutes.

Lab work is processed in-house by the CMH laboratory staff and results are returned to patients early next week.

The hospital has served 300 to 500 people every year during the event.

“We are grateful to our laboratory staff for helping us put on this event and the ability it gives us to offer the eating at such low costs,” CEO and President Curtis Hawkinson said. “This event wouldn’t be possible without the time and efforts put in by our staff on this special weekend.”

Those coming to get their lab work done should refrain from eating or drinking for 12 to 14 hours before their lab work. The hospital said moderate amounts of black coffee and water are fine.

After the blood work, patients can go across the street to the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and get breakfast after having their lab drawn.
