Rock Island Railroad Depot roof fixed after damage, leak
FAIRBURY, Neb. -- The Rock Island Railroad Depot’s roof has been repaired after a hail storm damaged it and caused a leak.
After the roof was damaged in late June, the Jefferson County Historical Society approached Prellwitz Exteriors to fix the roof and stop the leak.
Eric Prellwitz, the Owner of Prellwitz Exteriors, reached out to Executive Exteriors out of Dallas, Texas to fix the clay tile roof, which needed over five certifications and qualifications to work on.
After a year of gathering materials, the roof was completed and fixed after just a month.
Prellwitz said fixing a clay tile roof comes with many challenges that he had to face.
“Yeah, it definitely has different challenges when it comes to repairs and getting the right stuff but to install these tile roofs, there’s certain specifications you have to follow directly and if you don’t it will be a complete and utter disaster if the right protocols aren’t followed,” Prellwitz said.
With the depot being on the National Historical Registry, Prellwitz said he is happy to be able to make an impact and help fix a historic building.
