JEFFERSON COUNTY, Neb. -- There was one fatality in a one-vehicle roll over accident near Highway 136 Sunday night, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. 

The Jefferson County 911 Center received a call at 10:32 p.m. Sunday in reference to a one-vehicle roll over accident near Highway 136. When deputies arrived, they found a vehicle that had rolled over into a field on the south side of Highway 136. 

According to authorities, the vehicle was a 2002 Toyota Tacoma, driven by 61-year-old Joseph Hergott, of Gilead, and he was the sole occupant of the vehicle. 

During the initial investigation of the accident, it was determined that Hergott was traveling west on Highway 136 when he crossed over the eastbound lane and went into the south ditch. The vehicle reportedly collided with an embankment, causing the vehicle to roll. 

Hergott was transported by a Jefferson County Ambulance to Jefferson Community Health and Life where he later succumbed to his injuries. 

The Sheriff’s Department said that seatbelts were not in use and the accident is still under investigation.
