COLLEGE STATION, TX - In his opening remarks at a Monday press conference, new Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts acknowledged his alma mater - and his most recent job.

“First of all I’d like to thank the University of Nebraska,” Alberts said. “I’ve had an affiliation obviously with my alma mater for a very long time and I’ll always be a Cornhusker and just appreciate so much what the University of Nebraska has done for me.”

Alberts also acknowledged Tom Osborne his former staff while with the Huskers. Alberts resigned from his role as AD last Wednesday, for the same job at Texas A&M.

During his time at Nebraska, Alberts hired current head football coach Matt Rhule, helped transition Nebraska into the NIL era, and led efforts in Volleyball Day In Nebraska setting the world record for attendance at a women's sporting event.

Alberts noted the decision as an emotional one.

"I wasn't looking to leave," Alberts said. "At 54-years-old you see opportunities and Texas A&M is a pretty remarkable place, with a remarkable trajectory, with remarkable leadership.”

On Sunday, both Nebraska men's and women's basketball teams made the NCAA Tournament's - both facing off with Texas A&M.

"I’m really happy for Amy Williams. I’m really happy for Fred Hoiberg. I spent three years working with them," Alberts said. "I'm also really happy for Coach Taylor and Buzz Williams. Those are four really outstanding human beings, four great teams. It will be a little surreal and interesting to watch them compete - but the beauty is, I can’t lose.”
