'Skillet' to headline Horizon Music Festival Labor Day weekend

GERING -- Christian Rock Band "Skillet" will be performing at the Horizon Music Festival in Gering Labor Day 2024.
On Sunday, September 1, the band Skillet will take the stage as the headliners of Horizon Music Festival in Gering. Horizon Music Festival is a free concert where music and the gospel meet.
Horizon Music Festival is not just any event. It's a ticket-free experience where people can boldly proclaim and unite around the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Organizers are lining up a full roster of artists to set the stage alight with their passion and talent. The weekend also includes family-friendly activities, local food vendors, and much more.
Skillet was originally formed in Memphis, Tenn., in 1996 with John Cooper (who had been the lead singer for the rock band Seraph) and Ken Steorts (former guitarist for Urgent Cry). Drummer Trey McClurkin came in to complete the line-up for the original band. After Seraph and Urgent Cry broke up, John Cooper and Ken Steorts' pastor talked the two of them into joining forces to form a new band.
They called themselves Skillet because they came from such different musical backgrounds that they felt like they were throwing everything into a skillet to see what they could cook up.
Drummer Trey McClurkin rounded out the trio.
