DONIPHAN, Neb. -- The Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals defeated the Fillmore Central Panthers 71-51 Tuesday to head to the state tournament for the fourth time in five years.

The Cardinals were led by their leading scorer, Sophomore Jack Poppe, who had 23 points, along with Senior Jaden Williams with 14 points.

The Cardinals were in control for the majority of the game where they shot nearly 50% from three and took a double digit lead late in the first quarter.

Fillmore Central, despite playing a good game, allowed many open threes for the Cardinals and turned the ball over a little more than any team can afford against a team as good as the Cardinals.

Doniphan-Trumbull converted most of their second half points on the fast break and off of turnovers.

The Panthers were led by Junior Daniel Stoner with 14 points and Junior Jarin Tweedy with 11 points.

The Panthers, after going 20-2 on the season and having multiple big winning streaks, lost their last two games, in the Sub Districts against Scotus Central Catholic and in the District Finals against Doniphan-Trumbull.
