Lincoln man sentenced to decades in prison for attempting to entice 13-year-old girl

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A Lincoln man will spend decades in prison after trying to entice an investigator posing as a 13-year-old girl in Grand Island.
Luke Chapin, 38, was sentenced to 40 to 50 years for attempted use of a electronic device to commit sexual assault on Tuesday.
An investigator with the Grand Island Police Department posed as a 13-year-old girl and began chatting with Chapin in January of 2023, according to an 11-page affidavit.
The affidavit details multiple conversations between the two over social media, with Chapin repeatedly soliciting the fictional teen for nude photos and sex.
The investigator also discovered Chapin had been convicted of a similar crime in 2011, which caused his charges to be upgraded.
Chapin was arrested on March 22, 2023 and lodged in the Hall County jail. He was initially charged with sex trafficking of a minor along with two felony enticement charges.
Prosecutors later dropped the sex trafficking charge along with an enticement charge. Chapin later pled no contest to attempting a class I felony and was found guilty.
