Marilyn A. Wiens, 86, of Beatrice passed away Thursday morning, February 8, 2024, at Beatrice Health and Rehabilitation. She was born on April 9, 1937, in Beatrice, to Peter and Agatha (Hamm) Claassen. Marilyn graduated from Beatrice High School in 1954 and taught in rural schools in Gage County after attending summer training at Doane College. Marilyn married Marvin Wiens on June 3, 1956, at the First Mennonite Church of rural Beatrice. They lived in Denver, CO for two years while in 1W Service working in a hospital. They returned to Beatrice where they began their farm and dairy. Marilyn and Marvin were blessed with two children, Martin and Nancy.  Martin was killed by lightning in June of 1975 while raking hay.  This was a huge challenge for the family but trust in God and hope in Jesus helped carry them. When they stopped milking in 2001, Marilyn worked in the Parkview and Beatrice Hospital cafeterias for five years. She was a devoted farm wife, loving mother, enjoyed her many farm cats, gardening, flowers, cooking, baking, playing the piano by ear, and visits with her grandchildren and great-granddaughters.  Marilyn loved hymns, gospel music, and listening to Back to the Bible and Billy Graham. She was a current member of Christ Community Church in Beatrice.  She will be remembered for her caring thoughtfulness and smile despite life's difficulties.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Tim) Summers of Beatrice; three grandchildren, Luke (Edel) Summers of Lincoln, Mindy (Troy) Koch of Odell, and Troy (Victoria) Summers of Princeton, TX; five great-granddaughters, Ellie, Lyra, Lucy, Heidi, Holly, and another due any day, Sophie; sisters-in-law, Shirley Wiens and Kay Wiens; nieces and nephews.
