Attic fire sends firefighters to south Beatrice home
BEATRICE – A fire in the upper area of a home sent firefighters to the scene in south Beatrice, Thursday morning.
Beatrice firefighters were sent to 1923 South Fourth Street…a home at the northwest corner of Fourth and Granville Avenue.
The incident was reported as a fire in the attic of the house. Fire Captain Jeremy Seggerman says crews accessed the attic area by pulling down a ceiling in a bedroom below the fire and then extinguishing the flames. Fire damage was confined to the attic area above one bedroom, and the total loss from fire damage and contents was estimated at $13,000. There was some smoke and water damage in the bedroom below the attic.
The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical problem. Seggerman says there were no injuries.
The call dispatching fire department personnel was at 6:13 a.m. The fire was out, about a half-hour after the call reporting it. Seven firefighters responded to the scene and units were back in service shortly after 8 a.m.
Also responding were Beatrice Police, Black Hills Energy and Beatrice Community Development. Red Cross officials were assisting the two occupants displaced by the fire.
