BEATRICE – The maximum sentences allowed have been given to a Tecumseh man for three counts of attempted third-degree assault of a peace officer and third-degree domestic assault.

27-year-old Trenton Slama was sentenced to a total of 7 years in state prison, and 3 years of post-release supervision, in Gage County District Court.
Judge Rick Schreiner said he would have sentenced Slama to more time if the law would have allowed. "You have done nothing but be a criminal your entire adult life....nothing. And, I know you've told other judges you're going to do what you can, to change...and then you've gone out and been a criminal for the rest of your adult life."

A Johnson County case against Slama was dismissed as part of an agreement reached before Wednesday’s sentencing in Beatrice.

Schreiner said Slama’s past record included violations of burglary, theft, drug possession and terroristic threats across Gage, Saline, Jefferson, Johnson and Lancaster Counties. The judge referred to the domestic assault in this case.

"The victim in this matter said she was abused and tortured by you for weeks, mentally, physically, spiritually and otherwise....for really no reason."

Slama was ordered to pay medical expenses of the assault victim, totaling $164. He was given credit for 188 days already spent in jail and could be eligible for release from prison in about three years. Three other charges against Slama were dismissed in the case, including an allegation of being a habitual criminal.

Slama was arrested this past June after Gage County Sheriff’s deputies were summoned to a disturbance and assault, at Rockford Lake. He struggled with two deputies and a Beatrice firefighter who assisted the law officers. He damaged a patrol car on the way to Gage County Jail and had to be restrained while in custody at the jail.
