Weekend fire leaves Fairbury family homeless
Fairbury, Neb -- An early Sunday morning fire in Fairbury has left a mother and her two children without a home.
According to Fairbury Rural Fire Chief, Kenny Krause, dispatch notified the department around 1:30 AM of a house fully involved in flames. Fire crews entered the residence shortly after and began fighting the fire, which was a particularly hard fire to extinguish due to some past structural renovations. The fire was deemed electrical but the department was unable to pinpoint the exact cause.
The occupants, a mother, her 10-year-old daughter, and 5-year-old son were able to get out safely.
Assisting with the fire was the Jansen Fire Department, which has an automatic aid agreement, The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Jefferson County Ambulance 33, Emergency Management, and the Fairbury Utilities Department.
The Red Cross has been contacted in hopes of getting a living situation sorted out, in the meantime, clothing donations can be dropped off at Anything Electric in Fairbury or left at Jefferson Intermediate School.
