ROCA, Neb. - One person died in a single-vehicle crash near Roca on Saturday night.

The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office said 20-year-old Alexander M. Schoneweis, of Lincoln, lost control of the vehicle, striking a utility pole on the 11000 block of South 14th Street, just north of Saltillo Road. The crash occurred just after 8:30 p.m.

The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office and Southwest Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. Schoneweis was extricated from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Schoneweis was wearing a seatbelt, but the vehicle was not equipped with airbags or other crash safety equipment. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be involved, but speed is believed to have been a factor.

South 14th was closed for several hours for crash investigation and electric power was disconnected in the area by workers from Lincoln Electric System for the safety of rescue personel.

The crash remains under investigation.
