GERING - Jaxson Hinze fired a school record five under par 67 in winning individual honors at last Tuesday’s B-3 District Tournament at York Country Club. The freshman paced the Dukes to a first-place tie with defending state champion Norris for the district crown.

After Tuesday’s first day of the Class B State Boys Golf Championships at Monument Shadows Golf Course in Gering, York trailed the Titans by two shots in the team race. When the smoke cleared on Wednesday, the Dukes had four golfers in the top-ten and a second state title for retiring head coach Dan Malleck. York finished with a two-day total of 593 (+17), eight strokes better than Norris’ 601 (+25) and 38 shots ahead of third place Scottsbluff’s 631 (+55).

Ryan Seevers finished day one atop the leaderboard in a tie with Beatrice’s Treyton Baehr at two under par 70. The senior came back with a 75 on Wednesday to finish in a third place tie. A pair of York juniors made big jumps on day two to break into the top-10.  Elijah Jensen tied for the best round of the day Wednesday to move up nine spots to place fifth with a three over par 147. Emmanuel Jensen followed him up the leaderboard to finish seventh with a six over par 150. Freshman Jaxson Hinze rounded out York’s list of top-10 finishers by recording a seven over par 151 to take ninth place.

Beatrice senior Treyton Baehr took top medalist honors with an even par 144 by defeating Norris’ Travis Tilford on the second playoff hole. Norris junior Carson Thurber was third one shot back at one over par 145.
