GERING - Beatrice Orangemen golfer Trey Baehr is atop the leader board and in red numbers after day one of state golf.
Baehr posted an opening round 70 (-2) at Monument Shadow Golf Club in Gering, propelling him to the top, where he sits alongside York's Ryan Seevers. Baehr started his day -1 thru four holes, before picking up bogeys on holes five and six, totaling a 37 on the front nine. Baehr shot -3 on the back with birdies on holes 10, 15 and 16 to put him at a 2-under par score of 70 for the day.
Round two of state golf in Class B is set for Wednesday. Baehr is looking to become the first Orangemen golf state champion in 30 years when Chad Winter won the crown in 1993.
