Two injured in Fairbury collision
FAIRBURY, Neb. -- A Grand Island man and Kansas girl were injured in an accident near Fairbury on Friday.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said they got a call about a two-vehicle head-on collision around 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
The accident reportedly happened near Highway 136 and 560 Ave. A deputy reported that one of the vehicles was 2020 Chevrolet Express driven by a 58-year-old man from Grand Island.
Officials said the second vehicle was a 2007 Buick Lucerne driven by a 16-year-old girl from Kansas. The Chevrolet was reportedly going west on Hwy 136, coming up to the intersection with 560 Ave., while the Buick was going east on Hwy 136, already passed the intersection.
According to authorities, the Chevrolet crossed the centerline and into the other lane. The Buick reportedly tried to avoid the collision by going onto the shoulder but was still hit.
Officers said the vehicles collided in the east lane and had a near head-on collision. The man reportedly had minor injuries that were treated on scene while the girl was taken to a nearby hospital for her minor injuries.
