**UPDATE**

Washington County Emergency Management says the Haddam Fire has been contained as of 10 p.m. Thursday night. People who evacuated due to the threat were also allowed to return home if they so chose Thursday night.

Late coming, but the event is ever changing. The fire in and around Haddam is contained, but there are still areas that are burning. Timber and creek lines are the most areas that are still burning. Any residents that evacuated due to fire threat and/or smoke can return if they do choose. Personnel will be on site thru the night, and those that have went home to rest would be back out in a heartbeat, if needed. The situation will be evaluated at daylight Friday morning, with plans of how to proceed being decided. As always, if you see something of concern, please notify dispatch.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, KS — A small town in north central Kansas has reportedly been evacuated and multiple try to slow down a wildfire in Washington County. 

A fire south of Haddam, Kansas was reported Thursday. Multiple reports indicate the town has been evacuated as strong southerly winds push the flames toward the town. 

The amount of acres burned is unknown and the fire is 0 percent contained, according to the Kansas Forest Service. 

The Kansas Forest Service says reports are early but it appears to be a "major incident."

KFS also reported that multiple crews both local and statewide are on scene battling the fire. 

According to a social media post from the Faith Connection Covenant Church in Washington, Kansas, the Washington Fire Department is asking for help making sandwiches for dinner for people displaced by the fire. 

Most of Kansas and Nebraska are under a Red Flag Warning Thursday due to the hot, dry, windy weather. There is a chance for rain and storms Friday, which will also bring a wind shift and cooler temperatures with it. 

Wednesday and Thursday, crews also fought the Jamestown Marsh fire in Republic County. As of Thursday afternoon, that fire has claimed 680 acres and is 90 percent contained.
