LINCOLN - Parkview Christian can, yet again, call themselves champions.

The Patriots battled Wynot in the final game of the 2023 NSAA State Basketball Tournament's and picked up a 52-49 win over the Blue Devils.

The early going belonged to Wynot as the Blue Devils wasted no time, jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the first. Early jumpers from Zack Foxhoven and Dylan Heine helped the Blue Devils to that early lead.

Out of a Parkview timeout, the Patriots got right back into the ball game with an and-one from junior Terrance Pittman who totaled 13 points on the night, playing much of the fourth quarter with four fouls. The Patriots also made it a point to get the ball inside, which they did, as Keyan Simonsin scored 11 on the night, with six in the first half. Parkview led 23-22 at the end of the first half.

Parkview built up a 13-point third quarter lead with consecutive buckets from Viktar Kachalouski, the senior point guard from Belarus, and Maurice Reide who drew two and-one's, part of his team leading 17 points. However, Parkview never was quite able to pull away, with Wynot making it a three point game late, but free throws iced it for the Patriots.

What was the key for this team to go back to back? For senior Maurice Reide, it all comes down to family.

"We argue with each other, but we love each other," Reide said. "We have that family bond to built up that momentum, and momentum-wise, whoever can build up that momentum can take the win."

With the win, the Patriots defend their title. They were led in scoring by Reide with 17 points (he also grabbed seven rebounds). The games leading scorer was Wynot's Dylan Heine with 20.
