One dead after crash north of Fairbury, two others injured

JEFFERSON COUNTY, NE — A crash on Highway 15 north of Fairbury resulted in one person's death and two others being taken to the hospital Friday evening.
According to a news release from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened at the intersection of Highway 15 and Highway 4 at about 5:30 p.m.
A preliminary investigation revealed 22-year-old Michael Collins of Wymore was heading west on Highway 4 in a Suzuki. Angelica Edwards-Kouma, also from Wymore, was in the passenger seat.
The other car was a Toyota being driven by a 16-year-old from Fairbury who was driving south on Highway 15. The two collided in the intersection of the two highways.
Edwards-Kouma was pronounced dead at the scene.
Collins and the 16-year-old were taken to Jefferson Community Health and Life for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Jefferson County Rural Fire and Rescue, Daykin Fire and Rescue, Jefferson County Ambulance, Jefferson County Emergency Management and Nebraska State Patrol responded. The Jefferson County Sheriff closed down a portion of Highway 15 for multiple hours Friday night while responding to the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
