HEBRON, NE — A pair of rivalry games pitting Thayer County foes against one another resulted in a doubleheader split Saturday afternoon.

When Thayer Central faced Deshler, it was the Titans who took the girls game 41-29 while the Dragons from Deshler won a tight boys contest 42-40.

In the girls game, Deshler led after the first quarter, but Thayer Central dominated the second quarter, outscoring Deshler 13-2 in the period. At halftime, Thayer Central held a 20-12 advantage.

Deshler's offense continued to sputter in the second half as the Titans built their lead to 29-16.

The Dragons fought back in the fourth, starting the period with a 7-0 run to climb to within six points at 29-23. Thayer Central though clamped down to pick up the 41-29 win.

Natalie Tietjen led the victorious Titans with 16 points while Ava Wiedel had 13.

Allie Vieselmeyer had nine points for Deshler.

Deshler's boys led 10-8 after the first quarter of play in the second contest of the night and kept the offense going in the second quarter. At the break, Deshler led 21-15.

A low-scoring third-quarter sent the game to the final eight minutes with the Dragons holding a 27-22 advantage.

In the fourth, Deshler held off Thayer Central for most of the period. The scrappy Titans though eventually tied it late at 38 off a three-pointer by Grant Wiedel.

Deshler retook the lead at 40-38 before the Titans tied it back up with free throws with under a minute to go.

Down the stretch it was senior Gavin Nash with the difference-maker, a layup with four second left to seal a Dragons win.

Gavin Nash led all scorers with 20 points while Easton Nash added 9 for the Dragons.

Grant Wiedel paced Thayer Central with 13 points while Sam Souerdyke had 11.
