BEATRICE – The Kansas Highway Patrol reports one person was killed in a two-vehicle accident in north-central Kansas, in Republic County.

A collision occurred between an eastbound semitrailer truck and a westbound 2004 Buick LeSabre.  The person killed was driving the car involved in the accident…..60-year-old Fred Mikesell, of Scandia, Kansas. 

The KHP says the driver of the semitrailer truck, 50-year-old Richard Paul, of Port Saint Lucie, Florida….was not injured.

The collision happened on U.S. Highway 36 when the semitrailer truck jack-knifed, and struck the car, pushing it off the highway where it struck a tree. The accident happened at around 5:17 p.m. Wednesday….about a half-mile east of the U.S. 36—U.S. Highway 81 junction.

The Kansas Highway Patrol also investigated an injury collision in northeast Kansas at around the same time…..in Nemaha County, at 5:38 p.m.

Southbound and northbound vehicles collided on V Road….which was icy….about four miles northwest of Sabetha, Kansas.

A semitrailer truck driven by 45-year-old Collins Ambaya of Houston, Texas was driving south…when a northbound vehicle lost control, crossed the center line and struck the semitrailer truck head-on.  Kansas Highway Patrol officials say the northbound 2013 Ford Fiesta was driven by 31-year-old Conser Interiano-Interiano, of Hiawatha.

He and two 18-year-old male passengers were taken to Sabetha Community Hospital with suspected serious injuries.  The semitrailer truck driver was not injured. 

The KHP says all of those involved in the accident were wearing safety restraints.
