LINCOLN - A former Nebraska football head coach is in police custody.

Per a release from the Lincoln Police Department, Mickey Joseph has been arrested on charges of Strangulation and 3rd Degree Domestic Assault. At approximately 1:54 PM Wednesday, officers were dispatched to South 34th and Tree Line Drive on a domestic disturbance. Upon concluding the investigation, Joseph, 54, was arrested at a separate location. He was then lodged in Lancaster County Jail.

"I was made aware of the charges against Coach Joseph and given the nature of the allegations and based on university policy, he has been placed on administrative leave," Athletic Director Trev Alberts said. "We will have no additional comment at this time."

In compliance with Nebraska State Law, LPD is not releasing information about victims or injuries.
